About Dance
Dance is the ever evolving art form of body movement and nonverbal communication. Dance is constantly forming around us. Human connection through dance is like expression amongst non human animals and their patterns of behavior. Along with expression, dance is used to socially interact, and is presented in spiritual and performance settings. Dance takes many forms, but no matter what style of dance it is, flexibility, movement, and physics are involved. Dance is used in multiple art forms and along with gymnastics, figure skating, and synchronized swimming, martial arts kata uses dance.
The art form of dance has been traced back to pr-historic times. Paintings found in Indian and Egyptian tombs depict dance figures representing ceremony, ritual, celebration, and entertainment. Dance can embody or express ideas, emotions or tell a story. Before the production of written languages, dance was one of the methods of passing stories down from generation to generation.
Whether it is classical, ballroom, or contemporary form, dance develops the minds and bodies of people all over the world. At MAS, we hope to enrich you and your family’s life through dance.
